Every night. You need to wash your face every night. But somedays (or most days) this is the last thing you want to do. You’ve spent the day in meetings, teaching, running errands, making dinner, chasing around your kids and you want a few minutes to catch up on your favorite TV show. I get it. But, washing your face at night is a part of a self-care routine- just like drinking water, eating pretty good and getting some movement into your day. These are not always the things we want to do, but they are things that we should do so we have the results we want later. And if you want clearer, healthier skin, it all starts with washing your face!
Wash the day (and the grime) away

All-day long you are out in the elements- pollution, dirt, the oils from your hands each time you touch your face, and all your dead skin cells. You want to get all that off before you fall asleep on a pillow that is just going to trap all that junk into your pores for another 8 hours. Give your skin a chance to breathe free! The extra minute or so you’ve added to your night routine feels so good after a stressful day- I feel like I’m just taking all that stress off and getting rid of it (at least for the night. It might still be there for me when I am fresh-faced in the morning).
Prep your skin for overnight treatments

Your skin has 8ish hours to repair itself from your day. During sleep, your skin renewal rate increases, collagen production rises, and cortisol (the stress hormone) decrease. All these factors allow your skin to repair itself. With so much going on while you catch your zzz’s, you want to make the best use of this time. That is why there are products that are created for overnight use on your skin. My favorites are our brightening multi-vitamin treatment (to reduce dark spots) and our collagen night pak (which helps to seal in all your treatments). Or maybe you need some spot-on treatment for that breakout that is trying to drive you crazy. Whatever it is, the best time to apply many of these treatments is at night. This allows each product to do the most magic!
Keep your skin glowing (and pH balanced)

Washing your face (and prepping it to recover at night) helps your skin to stay hydrated. Hydrated skin will have a better PH balance. When your skin starts to get dehydrated, it looks dull and starts to show wrinkles. This is why I prefer to wash my face with our 3 in 1 cleanser every night after using a face wipe to take off my makeup. Our cleanser helps to tone and hydrate, and restores your skin’s PH so it stays in balance. Dry skin? Your PH is likely alkaline (more basic) and can start to show signs of aging early. Oily skin? Your PH is likely acidic and you might have more redness or it gets irritated easily. Choosing the correct cleanser for your skin type will help bring the appropriate PH balance back to your face to get you glowing again!
Ready to start getting your nighttime skincare routine in check? Start by finding out what your skin type is. I will build a routine for you from there. I love our 3 in 1 cleanser to start out. If you aren’t ready for that kind of commitment yet, grab yourself a pack of our FOOPS wipes to take off all your makeup before bed. Baby steps are better than no steps. Send me an email, a message on facebook or insta so I can help you get started with a skincare routine. We can find a routine that is going to bring that balance back to your life. Well, at least your skin!
